Smart moduleSony announces a means of turning any regular piece of eyewear into Google Glass-style "smart" glasses with the "Single-Lens Display Module", a device light enough for users to attach their glasses.

The module carries a colour 640x400 OLED microdisplay, an optical unit and a miniature control board complete with processor and sensor hub. Connectivity comes through wifi and Bluetooth.

The unit is easily attachable and detachable, and Sony states it has "potential applications in sports or for work, among other areas, displaying helpful information that supports you in the activity you are engaged in."

Set for unveiling at CES 2015 (as a prototype unit bearing the charming monicker "SmartEyeglass Attach!") before mass production later in the year, the display module will be marketed at a "wide variety of potential customers," including eyewear makers and CE vendors. Sony will also offer a SDKs for "partner organisations" wanting to take advantage of the device.
