Adding Magnets to Audio Jacks

A new startup proposes a means for customers to add MagSafe-style magnetic connectors to traditional audio jacks-- the Magzet, a 2-part connector compatible with all devices featuring a standard 3.5mm jack.

MagzetThe Magzet consists of the MagJack (fits over the jack) and the MagKap (fits on device audio ports). The pair "snap" together via magnets, and disconnect easily in case of sudden movements.

The makers promise the Magzet allows for "superb" audio quality while not hampering cable inline control functionality. Also supposedly solved is the issue of devices diverting audio to non-existent headphones should the MagJack be plugged into Android/iOS smartphones and tablets without the companion MagKap.

In addition the connector should protect jacks from the wear and tear of headphone plugging/unplugging.

The Magzet is currently available on Kickstarter, where the makers are hoping to make $294000 in pledges over the next month. If the crowdfunding/preorder campaign is successful the accessory hits the market from December 2015.
