According to the Wall Street Journal production has started on the next iPhone generation, with the company demanding suppliers make a "record number" of iPhones in time for a probable September 2015 launch.

iPhoneThe WSJ says Apple hopes to sell anything from 85 to 90 million "iPhone 6S"  units by end 2015, topping the 74.5 million Q4 2014 sales record spurred by the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

The latest iPhone is supposed to come in 4.7- and 5.5-inch versions, and should feature the Force Touch pressure-sensitive display technology seen in the Watch and the latest MacBooks. Further details include a new case colour (either rose gold or a shade of pink, depending on who you ask), camera sensor improvements and a boosted "Apple A9" CPU.

We will be able to confirm such details once Apple reveals the iPhone upgrade during its traditional September press event.
