Preorders Open for First Ubuntu Tablet

Spanish electronics maker BQ opens preorders for the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition-- the first tablet on the market running on Ubuntu OS, specifically version 15.04 Vivid Vervet.

Ubuntu tabletWhile the Linux-based OS is unique enough, the Aquaris M10 is even more interesting through a Continuum-style convergence features. Essentially the tablet can switch from mobile to traditional Linux through connection on peripherals such as keyboard, mouse and external display.

Technical details include a 10.1-inch 1920x1080 resolution display, 8MP rear-/5MP front-facing cameras, 2GB RAM 16GB internal storage (expandable to 200GB via microSD card) and a 7280mAh battery. Powering the device are a quad-core 1.5GHz MT8163A CPU and a MediaTek Mali-T720 MP2 GPU.

One has to keep in mind since the tablet uses an ARM CPU it only runs Linux apps compiled for ARM (as opposed to x86) processors.

The Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition should ship from April 2016.
