AirPower Charger is No More

The long awaited AirPower wireless charger is no more, as Apple admits to TechCruch it failed to meet internal "high standards" for the product, not to mention what appear to be difficulties brought about its design.

Airpower“After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project," an Apple statement reads. "We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward."

Announced back in September 2017, the AirPower promised to be a means to simultaneously charge 3 compatible Apple devices, with a clean and simple design typical of products from the company. However, at least according to TechCrunch, it fell victim to the laws of physics. Unnamed sources say the 3D charging coils were too close to each other, leading to overheating. Apple failed to come up with a fix, leading to the cancellation.

That said, the cancellation is very recent-- so recent the box of the new AirPod case has pictures of the AirPower charger, while the new AirPod sets mention AirPower. One can also recall a 20 March Wall Street Journal story claiming AirPower had entered mass production. something that was clearly not the case.
