Samsung Gets AMD Graphics for Smartphones

Samsung and AMD announce a multi-year partnership in "ultra low power high performance mobile graphics" based on AMD Radeon technology, with a particular focus on putting said technologies to work in smartphone applications.

"We look forward to working with AMD to accelerate innovations in mobile graphics technologies that will help take future mobile computing to the next level.”

The partnership will see AMD license the recently announced RDNA graphics architecture to Samsung as a probable replacement for the ARM-based Mali GPUs currently found in Samsung Exynos chips. This makes another home for AMD technology, which already finds use in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One games console, not to mention their successors, and the upcoming Google Stadia cloud gaming service.

Of course RDNA will also be found in upcoming AMD PC GPUs, specifically the Navi line.
