LG reveals the name of its upcoming flagship smartphone-- Velvet, a device the company claims will be set apart through a combination of a distinctive design and "tactile" elegance.

As the first of a smartphone range based around a new design philosophy (not to mention branding), Velvet features "evolutionary design departures." One example is the "Raindrop" camera. It has the three cameras and LED flash set in descending order by size on the upper-left corner of the device backside, a layout LG says is reminiscent of falling raindrops. The main camera sits slightly above the surface, while the two other lenses lie seamlessly beneath smooth glass.

Another design element is "3D Arc Design." The edges of the display and rear are symmetrically curved, making for a devices with less sharp edges and angles, and as such more pleasing to the touch. Such a design goes hand in hand with the name, one LG says will "evoke images of lustrous smoothness and premium softness."

LG gives no word as to what is found inside the device, never mind a release date. Rumours suggest a 15 May date, together with mid-range specs including a Snapdragon 765 processor and 5G connectivity.
