While everyone was focusing on the iPad 3 launch Apple quietly released the Apple Configurator-- a free iDevice (iPhones and iPads) configuration and deployment tool for large organisations.
The software allows admins to configure up to 30 iOS devices at a time by setting up new devices, installing enterprise apps and enrolling each device with a remote management solution.
Some commentors speculate the Configurator is similar to the software Apple uses to reset devices in showrooms.
Despite being consumer devices, growing numbers of iOS devices are finding their way into the enterprise sphere. According to iPass, the iPhone beats the Blackberry-- once a boardroom must-have-- as the 2011 enterprise mobile device of choice. The analyst says 45% of surveyed global businesses prefer to use iPhones, in comparison with 32.2% using Blackberry devices.
