Android App Store Catching Up to Apple's

Business Insider takes a look at the app numbers on the various mobile platforms' online stores-- and comes to a few conclusions.

Chart of the Day

First off, it's to noone's surprise that Apple's iPhone remains the platform with the most apps. However, Google's Android app store is slowly but surely catching up. Apple currently has 350000 apps. Android has 250000. Some would say this is a fairly big difference-- but the Android store's growth (as seen on the chart) is faster than the Apple's.

In fact, Business Insider expects the amount of apps on both stores to be equal within the next few months-- even if Google still shows it still has plenty of work to do.

Meanwhile app numbers on the other 2 other major platforms (Blackberry and Windows Phone 7) remain rather low; Windows Phone 7 appears to have just reached the 9000 mark, while Blackberry's app count reaches 20000.
