Huawei Smartphones Get VR Headset

In a move surprising to nobody Huawei presents a take on the smartphone-powered VR headset-- the simply named Huawei VR, a headset designed for use with either the P9 or Mate 8 handsets.

Huawei VRThe headset looks like the Samsung Gear VR, and works in a similar manner. Users simply need to slot the smartphone in the headset before connecting the two devices via USB-C cable to provide controls via touchpanel, back button and volume keys on the right of the headset.

However the VR experiences provided by the Huawei VR offer less resolution that the Gear VR (since the P9 and Mate 8 have a 1080p display), but Huawei claims it is the first to provide a 360-degree sound field. Also provided is an anti-blue light filter for eye protection. The field of view reaches 95 degrees.

Huawei gives no mention whether the Huawei VR will be available outside its home China, where the headset will be available with a choice of 4000 free movies, 40 games, 350 panoramic images and 150 panoramic tours.
