AMD TabletAMD has tried to get a foothold in mobile device business for a number of years, but so far failed get its SoCs inside actual tablets. Thus the idea of AMD making an own reference design makes at least some sense.

According to TechRadar AMD will officially reveal the tablet at CES 2014, and the company states "AMD's goals are to show the world what we can do in the tablet space around our next generation APU, Mullins."

Discover GamingLeaked images show a fairly generic black slab, if one with AMD branding on the bback. However the company insists it "does not plan to enter the market with a branded tablet and peripherals at this time," and Discovery will only act as proof-of-concept for potential OEM partners.

Also seen are images of a couple of interesting accessories-- a docking station (apparently making use of AMD DockPort technology) and a controller accessory complete with analogue sticks, face buttons and shoulder triggers to the device.

Reportedly Discovery is already turning heads, since it apparently already is a CES 2014 Best of Innovation Design and Engineering honoree. However such new is not actually confirmed, since the CEA excludes mentions of currently embargoed products in official award announcements.
